
Tony MURDOCH
Tony completed his graduate studies in Geneva and started work in the non- governmental sector where he occupied positions in publishing and public relations. His first senior position was as head of public information for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Subsequently he established the first staff information and external public relations function for Geneva University Hospital.
His first experience in the field of crisis management was when the agency for which he worked in the late eighties was hired by the Swiss pharma and chemical company Sandoz. The mandate was to design an emergency response and communications system following the disastrous damage to company reputation resulting from a major pollution of the River Rhine. In subsequent years he has undertaken risk audits, developed emergency response procedures and implemented them through a wide variety of training and simulation tools.
Client companies have been diverse and global from the pharmaceutical, nutrition, animal health, personal care, petroleum, and technology sectors. Assignments have been carried out in Europe, Asia, South America and the USA.
As Secretary General of the International Public Relations Association, Tony built up a significant network of professional colleagues on which he has drawn to be able to deliver services to clients in almost any part of the world. This resource base can be accessed from www.themurdochgroup.com.
Tony was educated in Belgium, Switzerland and the UK. He was the first student to graduate with a BA in international relations from Sussex University and obtained his MA in that same subject from Lehigh University in the USA before coming to Geneva. Widely travelled to all continents, he works fluently in English and French and has reasonable conversational ability in German and Spanish.
