Raj RANA
Raj completed his professional qualification and graduate studies in architecture studies in Canada and started his international career as a Canadian Peacekeeper in Bosnia-Herzegovina 1993 - 94. His field work continued over 8 years with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chechnya, Darfur and Iraq. Since 2006 he has continued working for international and inter-governmental organizations, completing over 25 projects in 20 countries.
While leading a project to improve the rapid response capacity of the ICRC, Raj developed an interest in finding ways to develop organizational and management capacity to respond to critical incidents. Drawing on the example of simulation training developed by the London Metropolitan Police in training their senior officers in crisis management, he has gone on to develop a number of simulation exercises all of which have been delivered to multi-agency audiences of senior managers of international civilian organizations who commit staff to missions in hostile environments. Examples of his simulations include the Security Management Initiative (SMI) of the Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research, the Advanced Training Program on Humanitarian Action (ATHA) of the Swedish International Development Agency, and the Security Management in Hazardous Environments course, developed for the Folk Bernadotte Academy (FBA).
As the Director of the WolfGroup Consultants since 2006, Raj has developed a global network of public and private sector consultants. This approach of connecting expertise from humanitarian, development, academic, defense and communications backgrounds allows the WolfGroup to deliver integrated and innovated approaches to its clients.
Raj was born and raised in Canada. He has been based in Geneva since 2003 and continues to travel regularly for business and pleasure. Raj works fluently in English and French and has good conversational ability in Russian and German.
